Every Tuesday we have an experienced Volunteer Advisor who can give advice on volunteering to asylum seekers and refugees to help them find the perfect place to volunteer.

Volunteering is a fantastic way of:

  • Gaining valuable experience to help apply for work
  • Building a CV
  • Learning new skills
  • Meeting new people and making friends
  • Practicing English
  • Getting to know the local community
  • Learning about life in the UK
  • Gaining confidence
  • Helping good causes and having fun!

The Volunteer Advisor will:

  • Meet with refugees and asylum seekers individually to discuss their goals, interests and what they would like to achieve through volunteering.
  • Research and find a volunteer role that will best suit their interests and ambitions.
  • Support them to apply for volunteer opportunities.

To meet with the Volunteer Advisor, call 02920489800 to make an appointment, or drop into the WRC Cardiff office any Tuesday after 2:00 p.m.

At Welsh Refugee Council we are proud to say that volunteers are treated as a valued colleague and a part of team WRC.

Our longest serving volunteer has been with us for just over 15 years but many of our volunteers give us a few months of their time and move onto other things. As long as you are passionate about wanting to make a positive difference to asylum seekers and refugees you will get a warm welcome from us.

Many of our former volunteers tell us that the experience they obtained whilst at WRC was invaluable.

One described it as “a very special time in my life”.

We provide a lot of support to our volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to learn and share new skills. You will be working with many different parts of the organisation in the delivery of our services. Many volunteers have developed their skills whilst at WRC enabling them to move on to paid employment.

At the Welsh Refugee Council, we celebrate the invaluable contribution volunteers provide to our work.

In return for your valued contribution we can provide you with:

  • A full induction and ongoing support to prepare you for your new role
  • Demonstrable experience operating in a very challenging sector
  • An ongoing role in the future development of the organisation
  • Active involvement in partnership work within the asylum/refugee and wider voluntary sector
  • Assistance with travel costs
  • Relevant support to access training and development
  • The knowledge that you are making a positive difference in people’s lives
  • A working atmosphere which promotes a sense of fun and community

Our work takes us to the heart of the issues when claiming asylum in the UK and you could be part of a diverse team working alongside staff members.

More information on available roles is coming very soon.

If you are interested in volunteering with us but need more information, please email volunteering@wrc.wales
